Session Replay Commenting

Session Replay Commenting is a great way of making notes on replays that you potentially want to use for future reference or share with other members of your team. These comments can be added at any point of the replay to make annotations and point out parts of your website that can be improved.

Adding Comments

Ensuring you are logged in, you will then be able to comment on Session Replays. You will need to pause the replay at the point that you want to add the comment, you can do this by clicking the Pause button in the controls menu at the top of the session replay. Once paused, you can simply click and drag your mouse to create a red square around the part of the replay that you want to add the comment to, as in the example below. Instructions for this can be found by clicking the Comments icon or going to Comments in the replay menu. You will then be able to add your comment in the text box and then click Save. You can add multiple comments to a Session Replay, both at the same time in the replay, or at different times.


You are also able to mention other users in comments, this in turn will alert the user to your comment. In the example below, you can see the user @support has been included in the comment. To do this simply precede any username with an @ sign to mention them in the comment.

Once your comment has been added, a yellow bar will be added to the timeline at the top of the page. When viewing this session replay, you can click on this bar to be taken to the part of the replay where the comment is, where the journey will pause. All of the comments in the replay will also display in the Comments panel on the left hand side. You can click the blue arrow next to a relevant comment to jump to where the comment was made in the session.

When clicking the blue arrow to see a comment and the area that has been highlighted, you will also be able to see any replies to the comment, as well as replying yourself. To reply to a comment, you can simply enter any text in the Reply to comment box before clicking Submit.

Editing Session Replay Comments

You can very simply Edit a Session Replay comment by locating the relevant comment, either using the yellow bar in the replay or from the Comments panel, clicking the blue arrow.

From here you can simply click the Edit icon to change your comment, and you can also move the highlighted area of the replay by clicking and dragging the move icon in the top left hand corner of the highlighted area, while you can also increase the size of this area by clicking and dragging the icon in the bottom right hand corner of the red highlighted area.

Deleting Session Replay Comments

You can very simply Delete a Session Replay comment by locating the relevant comment, either using the yellow bar in the replay or from the Comments panel, clicking the blue arrow.

From here, simply click the Delete icon to remove your comment from the replay, before clicking Yes to confirm.

Filtering By Commented Session Replays

You can filter by Session Replays with comments by going to Sessions > Filters and ticking “Show visitors with replay comment only”. Sessions that have comments will have a blue speech bubble icon; you can hover over this icon to see the date of the last comment, along with the last user to comment on it.
